Cast Specula Metal

6 x 4-5/8 x 4-5/8 in.

These works are cast from a several hundred year old alloy recipe of Sir Isaac Newton’s called specula metal. He used this alloy for its pure reflective properties as the mirrors of his first hand-made telescope.

The specula metal of these works however remain unpolished as a material once used to aid the human eye to see what it cannot.
